Biomass Gasification And Its Applications

!: Biomass Gasification And Its Applications

In rural areas, mostly where agricultural and plantation wastes are available, biomass turned out to be the most promising technology. It was the source of affordable and competitive electricity supply. Sometimes it is hard to afford general electricity. Hence need was felt for a substitution that would be close to exact. There was born the Biomass Gasification.

Higher efficiency in traditional usage was more focused at. The goal was the utilization of the selected and proven energy technologies. In a socially fair commercialization system this was the best option. Energy services for usages such as cooking or lighting or water supply or even social services were planned to be the integral part of the village services given. The main focus remained in to the development of the area by providing them enough grounds to come up. It was mostly thought for a better tomorrow.

Few most important applications for biomass gasification

1. One of the major applications being the producer gas: This can be obtained mainly by the process of gasification. This can be employed in thermal application or for mechanical or electrical power generation. Especially when it is compared to a solid fuel it has better control over power levels. This part is highly impressive. Under this impression it paves way for more efficient and cleaner operations. Hence happily accepted.

2. Thermal Applications: Mostly for thermal applications, gasifiers prove to be a good option. It is so because, gasifier can be retrofitted with the existing devices available. Most of them being furnaces, ovens, boilers and so on. 4.5 to 5.0 MJ of the Thermal energy order is released by burning 1 m3 of producer gas in the available burner. 1200° C high flame temperature can be obtained by pre-mixing of air with gas and optimum level of air preheating. Thus replacement of fossil fuels is evident. In a wide range of devices producer gas can replace fossil fuels.Furnaces for melting non-ferrous metals, thermal fluid heaters, boilers for process steam, tea dryers, ceramic kilns and heat treatment are a few of the devices which could be retrofitted with gasifiers.

3. Generation of power: Using producer gas, a diesel engine can be operated on dual fuel mode this is an amazing aspect. Over 80% at high loads and 70 - 80% under normal load variations Diesel substitution can be achieved. The mechanical energy derived is used for several purposes.
